YOU'RE SOMEONE'S TYPE: DONATE BLOOD AND SAVE A LIFE

Cardinal Mooney High School partners with SunCoast Blood Center to help in their mission to save lives by providing blood services and therapies to those in need. SunCoast Blood Center is an amazing nonprofit organization that provides blood and blood related services to hospitals in Southwest Florida. The main donation center for SunCoast is located on Mound Street in Sarasota Florida. They also have other locations across Manatee, DeSoto, and Charlotte counties. For our school, they offer a mobile blood drive and a concierge program for mobile donations.

SunCoast is very committed to helping our community and raising awareness about how important it is to donate blood. They provide 100% of the blood products and services for Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System, Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, and more. They have been providing care to the community since 1949 and are always welcoming new donors. At CMHS we have 3-4 annual blood drives every school year. This semester it was on August 26. These blood drives help encourage students to get more involved.

The Cardinal Mooney Blood Drive is also a wonderful way to help those in need, support the Mooney community, and gain service hours. It is a wonderful thing to do and perfect for our school community. This year, 73 students from CMHS have donated blood. These drives are more challenging in the summer months due to school being out. Overall, student donations are nearly 25% of the community blood supply, which shows how it is so important for us to get involved.
